Thurein
Thu Rein (born 1974, Taungyi, Myanmar) is a prominent painter and a photographer. While doing his university studies in Zoology major, Thu Rein took painting and sculpture lessons as night classes for 2 years. He has been passionate about painting but only in the year 2000, he became more focused in art with the night classes. After that, instead of taking art lessons, he started to approach the senior painters from the neighbourhood and learned by observing them. In 2002, he participated in the first group show in the gallery at the National Museum.
Since his early career, Thu Rein has mostly been pursuing Abstract Expressionism, occasionally seen doing a few landscapes and portraits. In 2007 he had an exhibition on portraits of the musicians. He was also active in art photography and had his first solo exhibition for photography in 2012. In 2013, he had is solo installation but apart from these 3 exhibitions mentioned, all of his exhibitions were under Abstract Expressionism. By applying abstraction, he creates intense moments and landscapes with focus on colour composition, texture, effects, conscious and subconscious feelings and beauty.
His works have been exhibited over 38 times. Moreover, he had 9 solo shows and international exhibitions around South East Asia and in America. Thu Rein currently lives and works in Yangon.
