Htoo Aung Kyaw
Htoo Aung Kyaw was born in Kyaukpadaung, a small town in Mandalay Region, on the way to Bagan. He holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy and studied art, specializing in painting, at the State School of Fine Art in Yangon. Htoo had a deep interest in history and philosophy since childhood, and frequently visited Bagan to study its history and unique mural art at the stupas.
Htoo's artworks reflect his interests and studies in philosophy, focusing on the culture of ancient Pyu and Bagan eras and combining with contemporary themes. He believes that "Art is Sharing" and he always shares the concepts behind the piece, mainly about life and eastern philosophies . In additions , he used to apply the knowledges which he had researched on historical and anthropological things in his artworks .
He is passionate about sharing his knowledge with the next generation as an art teacher, having taught at New Zero Art Space and educated the orphaned childeren. Additionally, he served as an Editor of the Pansodan Art and Culture Journal, where he wrote profiles of Myanmar artists and their works. He also writes emotionally expressive poems and essays published in various magazines.
In 2014, Htoo had his first solo show at Pansodan Gallery titled "The Nook." His second solo show in 2019 at Lokanat Gallery focused on showcasing his installations and collage work. He has also exhibited in duet shows, including alongside French artist Christine Fayon in 2019 and with Indian artist Aymen at Kalasa Art Space in 2020.
In addition to being a painter, Htoo Aung Kyaw is also a performance artist. His works have been performed or exhibited both domestically and internationally, including in Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Korea, Australia, and France.
